Development of the architectural appearance of the metro station Prospect Marshal Zhukov

Location
The Marshal Zhukov Avenue station will appear at the intersection of Marshal Zhukov Avenue and Demyan Bedny Street and will become a transfer station to the Narodnogo Opolcheniya Station under construction on the Big Circle Line. The planned station is located in the Khoroshevo-Mnevniki area. This is a promising area in the north-west of Moscow, and besides being one of the greenest areas in the city, this area has a rich historical heritage.
Concept
Many streets in the Khoroshevo-Mnevniki area are named after famous military men, such as Zhukov, Biryuzov, Karbyshev, there are many memorable objects related to military themes (a monument to people’s militias, D.M. Karbyshev, Marshal Zhukov square, etc. .). Also, apartments were given to the military and their families here. Since the image of the place and the very name of the projected station are obviously related to the military theme, therefore, we include in the project references to the historical past of the region. The connection with the military theme is played up with a single element in the form of a decorative pattern, reminiscent of contrasting order strips. The pattern is used in the interior (on the walls) and in the landscaping of the station in the form of paving.
The main volumetric unit is a column with a cross-section of a superellipse of different sizes, it is also displayed both in the exterior and in the interior.
Landscaping
The projected station is located in a residential area. At the same time, this area is actively involved in the housing renovation program, and a large percentage of houses around the planned metro pavilions will be settled. Khoroshevo-Mnevniki is considered one of the greenest in Moscow: there are Serebryany Bor, Krylatskie Hills park, Birch Grove park, Oktyabrskoye radio field forest. Based on the trend of «renewal» of the area, and taking into account the fact that the metro station will become a new driver for the development of the territory, we are applying a number of solutions that will unite the metro station and the structure of the district into one active urban element.
The main solution is to actively expand the park area to the area adjacent to the metro pavilions, connecting the Oktyabrskoye radio field forest and the Moskva River embankment with a promenade.
The district is actively developing and the flow of people is increasing, it is necessary to give the metro pavilions not only a transport function, but also a meeting point function. A large open space in front of each of the four pavilions, full of places for short-term rest, waiting and meetings, will be attractive not only for metro passengers, but also for residents of the area.
Ground pavilion
The stylobate part consists of an alternation of thin columns and glass stained-glass windows, which makes it permeable to light. The cornice part is monolithic on the outside, opposing itself in volume to the stylobate, but inside the pavilion there is an arch along the office of the superellipse.
Transition between stations
The transit line between the two stations has a neutral appearance, differing in the lighting system from the main areas.
Checkout hall
The central part directs towards the escalator by inverting the color of the ceiling, which contrasts with the side spans of the zone. The columns and part of the walls are rounded.
Platform
The columns of one row are united by a protruding decorative beam, through which slats with built-in linear lamps are passed, located in each of the three bays of the station. The walls of the platform are lined with slabs of granite of similar shades, with inserts of brass up to the middle, part of the rest of the wall of the platform is sheathed with black matte stainless steel sheets, opposing the abundant decor of the dies. The columns are framed with brass plinths.
Materials
In the design of all zones of the station, granite of the Mansurov rock was used, in the passages to the circular station — Pokostovsky, on the stairs of the pavilions — solid granite steps. Prefabricated aluminum cassette ceilings with integrated lighting in checkout areas and corridors. A rectangular stainless steel tube with copper-plated effect is used for fencing. In the checkout areas and on the platform, parts of the wall and ceiling are finished with a single material using matte black stainless steel sheets. Brass inserts are used in each zone to enhance the look of the medal strips. To impart a solid finish to the columns and elements of the pavilion, granite-like plaster is used in the color of the coating.
Lighting
Ground-level pavilions are equipped with perimeter dome lighting, which can be accessed and serviced from street level. Throughout all zones of the stations, linear lights are used, which are located perpendicular to the direction of travel. Crossings between stations are equipped with point lights.
